What is and what it does?
Hope you read the title of this post and the question above before you write your comments:
Finding youtubers who share your interests and or create videos you like is easy, but doing video collaboration is difficult. If your friend is one who leaves in another part of the world, you are now limited by distance but receiving contents such as videos or photos via email is possible to create a video project to collaborate. In my view, a video collaboration is nothing more than a loop, two people create the same video or perhaps same story, could be different a bit, but they are posted as video responses to each other’s video. Doing collaboration with one who lives far from you will be time consuming. But it might be worth it if you want to bring his/her visitors to your channel.
If two videos are identical, you will find yourself in a loop. A loop is often the VIDEO COLLABORATION.
Wanna create a video loop? just do a video collaboration with identical video content posted by two of you; you and your friend. Post both videos on two channels. Post that video as a response to your friend’s video. Collaboration is complete!
Collaborating videos could be just a piece of cake if two youtubers are neighbors or live within a distance that’s not too far . You could just come out of your door, roll both of your camcorders, talk about topics sitting together, or film something you both are interested in. Then create your project. Edit if required, then upload the video. Now, You both do it on your own or one does it and gives to the other, then upload your project as a video response to each other. Finish it. This process would be faster and much more personal since you both are the characters, or directors filming together.
Video collaboration helps extend your network - your channel, friends, subscribers and all. You exchange visitors as well; yours becomes mine and mine becomes yours. Is that what youtube video collaboration is all about and nothing more? Well, read on…
If you are lucky, a collaboration with one who has more views, videos and subscribers will benefit you. Those who care about promoting talented youtubers will surely not mind doing it. To approach, simply write a nice formal letter asking if he/she would be interested in it. Try your luck. Once you get a reply saying, OK. Then go in detail about the project, don’t just sit there and expect the other one to do everything for you. Communicate about the video concept, content, location etc. Meet and start making films together. Upload and post as a video response. Done!
What is not videos collaboration?
A video response unrelated to the original video. Yes, often people post videos as responses to top viewed videos. Unrelated responses are less likely to be noticed. When responding to videos as “Video Response”, make a video for it or find a video that fits well. If you can’t find anything, try one that is somehow related to the original video. The chances of getting your videos being approved as a video response would be more if it has the response either visually or by audio content in the video.
What is not video collaboration?
It is not just a video response. It’s a work done together.
Shows similarity in content of the videos you both create. It’s like shaking two hands virtually.
How to find someone in your area for a collaboration work?
Try searching at channels with keywords related to your area such as CA, NC, Ireland etc. Any you tuber who has listed as such, approach them. But don’t be too personal and think that all youtubers are honest in creating their account. Once I said “Greetings to you from USA to somone who was in Ireland and the response came back, what makes you think I am in Ireland, I am here in the US!”
Try using the advance feature of youtube. Look on the location of the videos from a youtuber, the google map integrated with youtube shows the location where a video was made. Here again, there is no gurantee that youtubers will pick the correct state or location. So weary about it too. Count all these as luck, because it is possible for someone to pick no location or even completely a different location.

Always keep an eye on the number of subscribers. Learn who they are, what kind of videos they wish to watch. You can actually ask them : what they would like you to make. Collaboration might be good to get views but there are some cons associated with it.
- What if you made a collaboration with say 50% of your subscribers don’t like ? You will be risking losing all of them or could some of them stay ?
- What if you made a collaboration with the intent to get views from other countries or youtubers that don’t share your interest as well as the subscribers you have ?
- Video collaboration can’t guarantee that you will get more subscribers.
Video collaboration is a great tool, to have fun, socialize and reach-out. When trying to find someone, don’t ask for address etc also don’t disclose your personal information. You can read more at the Safety Tips link located on youtube. Keep your identify intact when talking to stangers.
