My Gear

Right now, it’s HP AMD 64, with a few external hard disk; not much inside, but has been around for nearly 7 years and I see that the hard disk is slowing down a times so I have yet to backup stuffs!

So after months of review, my new gear will come here and will show you and perhaps do a video review. That would be a great idea ? Which BRAND did I pick ? DELL. Only because I never owned dell and this is just for my experience with Dell and let’s see how it goes. I will surely be sharing with you my experience. If you are about to replace your desktop for notebook, there are tons of notebooks, browse a few articles I have written to help you out and see which one you can afford. Dell Did it, but kind of scared of customer care. But being the #1 computer vendor if they prove that they are louzy in customer care, this blog will show what happens to my gear and how they treat it for giving them as much as 2K !

There is a saying that’s kind a popular and i like to write it here for you to think about your life.

A question for you :

(A) One person lived to be 100 years old, keeping in good shape, eating vegetables only, doing the right thing but never went no where, not even drank a beer.

(B) The other one lived short but enjoyed life to the fullest.

Which one really lived ?

Going back to the gears, this is my way to have the taste of DELL and write a blog about what happens to this desktop replacement. I really loved the Toshiba for it’s bigger screen (look for gaming notebook there), but hearing that it’s not well built (plastic etc…) it turned me off although I can still remember how long my 1st Toshiba lasted. May be I will switch if DELL is #1 because it sells more cares less? I can’t just give you my experience yet, but when it comes, I am going to rock this machine, throw everything from games to animation to AVCHD video editing. Please pray that results are good and that reputation of this company remains as good as the name says it:

D – Durable

E – Eyes Can be Tricky

L – Lasts

L – Longer

Hope it’s true!

Ok, Got it guys and let’s see what more i need: Seems like more money for 64 bit software now. Lesson ? If you are going to invest aroud 2K on a notebook, think of the software you planning to purchase. Overall, you could be spending around 4k if you are planning on producing something like a long animated movie or something like that. Don’t tell me there aren’t free open source software that do amazing job and I have to be left out of commercial ones.

My Gear, OK, Got it to try :

DELL Model (bought it cause I wanted to try this brand at least once in my life  time)

DELL XPS, 15.6 Inch, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, Intel HD plus NVDIA 2GIG Dedicated Graphic Card, 8G RAM, BlueRay+DVD+CD Player, Backlight Keyboard, 1920×1080 HD True Display, Facial Recognition Login Software, Adobe Premier Element  9 + Photoshop 9, Intel I7, 500G 7200RPM HD and EXTERNALS;  SONY CX150 Camcorder, Kodak Zi8, Flip Ultra Cam Corder
2 TB Hard Disks. Let’s see where I end up !

Based on my Usage :

Pros :

  • Saves Energy by switching off display and graphic cards as needed.
  • Looks like Alienware type without the weight.
  • Plays games beyond required levels; perhaps the 2G Cards was the thing there.
  • Facial Recognition login makes it pretty cool to login just like in Alienware.
  • AVCHD footage editing and preview very fast so is rendering.
  • A complete replacement of a desktop
  • has HDMI Output so you can do dual display on another HD Monitor helping you do more.
  • No heating issues here, back end lifts up a bit about inch and half to give plenty of room for fans to blow the air.
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.0, not bad at all. It does it automatically for you, you don’t need to do a thing.
  • Mine did not come with the Dell Dock, but you can download and install, it kid makes your PC look like Apple’s Mac Book Pro. I got it by downloading the Dell Dock via the support section. It’s nice to have  everything (mostly used apps under one roof)

Cons :

  • Powersaver doesn’t recognise all types of applications so you end of touching the mousepad once in a while to get back to the brightness you had when you started the application. This might be XPS unable to the recognize software ? I have no clue.
  • Only 2 USB Ports ? I was laughing out for heaven’s sake. But this can be solved by adding USB Extension cord.

No problem so far. I will share the customer satisfaction etc on this page or on a post. Thanks for clicking this link but you didn’t have too.

bye for now. it’s so late, wish i had time to proof read what i wrote. bye bye

Rant: when we live in a digital age, why call the owner by phone for a survey ? Want a survey send email or give some complimentary. The other day, a sales rep called and wanted a survey but I was busy and all I said was : I almost bought 2K laptop and you cheated on me by giving me a 5400RPM Drive. That’s when I realize that it’s important for people to read quotes if they are prepared by sales rep. Go through everything even though they seem to tail to your needs they miss a lot. Hard Disk speed itself can decide the performance of your PC. I was kind of disappointed that Dell sold me without telling me even the type of drive and speed. Had it been Toshiba I would be fine with that but at speed less than 7200? A you freaking playing with my money nearly Two Thousand Dollars. Dell Did. So a lesson, check, check, check and remember those sales rep are like robs designed to sell you anything and make money for the company. They are never in your interest.
