Is Youtube.com becoming an adult site?
What is the required age to sign up with youtube? Is that information on the site? I have been looking for this but in vain. If it really has become an adult site it is a shame on Google who bought youtube, but challenges lie ahead to live long. How can it remain as the most clean and popular site that everyone can enjoy; dad, mum, and even a 5 year old kid.
If you have an account with youtube, it makes sense to tell youtube you are very young when you sign up. That way when you are logged in, and you happen to be clicking on a video whose title says cute cats, you tube will warn you “you must be 18 or older”. Thank God! Perhaps your grand kids sitting in your lap looking for some animal videos do not see nudity! That is what i did, signed up as someone who is below 18 years old although I am twice that age. I did it so i do not want any vulgar content before my eyes. I am sure many married couples will also never use youtube if he or she starts fighting saying… am I not enough for you? Even worse, fighting gets to such a level that they divorce. Can we count some of the divorce as a result of Internet; either of the spouse chatting with someone or watching a vulgar video on youtube or else where…
There are other video sharing sites which are becoming popular because they seem to be even cleaner and offer better quality of videos. They are also easy to use and their userbase is growing. I am not going to list them here for you. Do a search using google, keywords: video sharing sites
There is one by yahoo also which is cool, now we can really see online video fight! I hope yahoo goes far. Yahoo has always kept the teens in mind, have a look at its yahoo answers; the site design and the words it usages, shows how appealing it is. Site Design of Yahoo answers? Your school notebook! Hope their new video sharing site does what many are lacking - blocking adult videos.
I like youtube because it is easy to use and has more viewers hence my videos have more chance of being watched. But after having seen many unsuitable videos, I might move elsewhere. It appears the site is not for minors. It lacks required technology to prevent sexually explicit contents from being shown. Showing someone’s but, top parts of legs, vulgar languages in comments and some even in descriptions are some examples which i consider vulgar. Just heard a news, a few days back, it will have digital finger print system which would check to see if any video contains copyright music. If found, the video would be deleted. Can something similar be done to prevent adult contents. Or youtube does not care because it could divert visitors who go to adult sites and make more money!
Here is how I thought it could create finger print to detect contents unsuitable for minors. Sounds silly but hope something similar is going at you tube test lab!
Work with adult sites. Obtain and store every possible photos they offer. Create your own digital photos of humans of all color, race, ages. Now create a finger print called sexuality. Process the users uploaded video. If any image found in the video matches the print, give a message to the user: sorry, while processing your uploaded video, we found unsuitable contents and if you continue receiving these warnings, your account may be suspended. Please Try adult sites to upload or watch videos.
There is a long way to go before a site can live long. If a site tends to become more and more for adults, it is a shame of the modern digital age!
Sites made for all ages of humans will live longer, will go far attracting more users, now and tomorrow!
